Auto insurance is very important for a lot of people out there, and although it can really help out in some of the most distressful points in our lives, there are a lot of people who are taking advantage of the system. It’s not one of the best things out there, and it really shows how bad humanity can be sometimes, but we all know that it happens. There are a litany of people who seem to like gaming the system with the hopes of gaining some money out of the industry. It’s something that no one likes to hear about, but a person will really have to understand that everyone in the world isn’t nearly as upstanding as they should be, especially considering the fact that insurance is there to help people, not to help some and to hurt others. It’s not to say that the scammers are going after you personally, but they certainly are out to get some money from the insurance company that represents the driver.

WAVE AND HIT

One of the more common scammers utilizes the wave and hit technique It’s exactly as it sounds: the driver will wave a person to get in front of them in traffic and deliberately hit them. Once they file the claim, they will say that they didn’t wave and the other driver just pulled out in front of them. 

THE REAR-ENDER

This scam is one that’s especially annoying, considering the fact that it’s you that will hit them. The basic set-up for this kind of scam revolves around the scammer pulling out in front of you and slamming on their brakes. This will cause for you to read-end them, and it can be hard to explain this one to the insurance company, and this is exactly why so many scammers out there find this one to be especially effective.

TACKING ON DAMAGE

Some of the methods that these scammers use are considered to be more nefarious than others, and there’s nothing that’s more true to that fact than those who like to add on the damage, regardless of if the accident actually happened or not. People actually add some damage on after the original accident to get more money out of the insurance company, and while it doesn’t happen often, it’s still something to watch for. One of the best ways to combat this is to take a picture of the damage while you’re at the scene. Considering that many people have phones with picture-taking capabilities, this doesn’t seem to be much of a problem with most people out there.

UNDERSTAND THE “CRAFT”

Some people are good-natured, and they think that most scammers won’t target their vehicle. While this may be true for some people, there certainly are a lot of people who are always looking for money for nothing, especially in these trying times. It’s best to be on guard, as a lot of the scammers are professionals and know exactly what they are doing, and even have the ability to come off as an upstanding citizen. If you’re involved in any accident, it’s best to always take pictures and keep yourself as safe as humanely possible.
